The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is fighting for a world free of the death and disease caused by tobacco. We work in low- and middle-income countries – where over 80 percent of the world’s smokers live – to support the adoption and implementation of proven solutions that reduce tobacco use and save lives.
Around the world, a growing number of countries are standing up to the tobacco industry and taking strong action. But there is an urgent need to accelerate progress.
Tobacco use is the world’s leading cause of preventable death, killing more than eight million people worldwide and causing more than $1.4 trillion in health care expenses and other economic harm each year. Tobacco companies aggressively market their lethal products and fight every effort to reduce tobacco use, often targeting the most vulnerable countries and populations.
With support from Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids plays a leading role in the global fight against tobacco. We provide funding, legal, communications and research support to governments and non-governmental organizations to help them put in place effective tobacco control policies, and we expose and counter the deadly tactics of the tobacco industry. We are proud to be a partner in the Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use.
