American Cancer Society
A nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy and service.
Americans for Nonsmokers Rights
A national lobbying organization dedicated to nonsmokers' rights. The organization challenges the tobacco industry at all levels of government to protect nonsmokers from secondhand smoke and youth from tobacco addiction. American Heart Association
The American Heart Association provides education and information on fighting heart disease and stroke. The web site provides resources on prevention, treatments and statistics.
National Center for Policy Research for Women and Families
CPR for Women and Families is a new nonprofit research-based think tank,
which translates complicated medical and scientific information into "news
that can be used" by the public, the media and policy makers. The organization
analyzes and disseminates information that can be used to improve the health
and well-being of women, children and families. One of their goals is to
reduce tobacco use among children and young adults.
National Cancer Institute Tobacco Control Research Branch
The TCRB was established in October 1998 to provide a focal point for tobacco control research within the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences. The TCRB plans, develops, implements and maintains a broad spectrum of basic and applied research in the behavioral, social and population sciences on the prevention and cessation of tobacco use among youth and adults.
Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration
SAMHSA is the Federal agency charged with improving the quality and availability of prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation services in order to reduce illness, death, disability, and cost to society resulting from substance abuse and mental illnesses.
World Health Organization
The organization proposes conventions, agreements and regulations and makes recommendations about diseases, causes of death and public health practices. It develops, establishes and promotes international standards concerning foods, pharmaceuticals and similar substances.
