California voters deliver a huge victory for kids over Big Tobacco
In November 2022, Californians overwhelmingly voted to uphold the state’s landmark 2020 law to end the sale of most flavored tobacco products, including flavored e-cigarettes, menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars. Big Tobacco spent over $20 million on a 2022 midterm referendum – Proposition 31 – in attempt to overturn the law. The result provides powerful momentum for more states and cities across the US to take similar action.
Inaugural Global Young Ambassadors Summit in Istanbul
In October 2022, Tobacco-Free Kids brought together more than 25 young advocates from 17 countries to launch a global network to take on the tobacco industry. The group established essential advocacy skills, framed core messages, worked on planning and executing advocacy campaigns, and agreed on a 2023 global action initiative. The global youth movement for a tobacco-free future is just getting started!
