Statement of Matthew L. Myers, President And William V. Corr, Executive Vice President Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids
November 14, 2002
Washington, D.C. — We congratulate U.S. Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on being elected the House Democratic Leader. Congresswoman Pelosi has consistently been a leader in the fight to protect kids from the deadly addiction of tobacco use and has steadfastly stood up to the tobacco industry. She has been a strong supporter of comprehensive tobacco prevention measures and has been a longtime advocate for regulation of tobacco products by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. House Democratic Leader Pelosi has also been a leader on global tobacco issues and has fought the tobacco industry's efforts to penetrate new markets and addict new customers around the world. We are looking forward to working with her in the 108th Congress.
