Tax Gap of Heated Tobacco Products in Bahrain
Bahrain signed the Common Excise Tax Agreement of the States of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on February 1st, 2017, and it entered into force on December 30th, 2017. All tobacco products are subject to excise tax at 100% of the pre-tax price. The tax applies to all tobacco products including heated tobacco products. As the tax base is the pre-tax price, the effective tax rate is 50% of the retail sale price.
